My Credentials

I received a Bachelor’s degree in psychology from McGill University (Montreal) in 1985. After that, I earned both a Master’s Degree in School Psychology (1989) and a Doctorate of Psychology (1991) from Pace University in New York City. I’ve been licensed as a psychologist in New Hampshire since 1992, but have practiced individual, couples and family therapy since 1989. I have had a private, solo practice since 1993, initially in Dover, NH (1993-2000), and in Durham, NH (2000 to present).

Who I Work With

My primary practice is with individual adults. However, I also work with couples, families, adolescents, and children age 6 and above.

Areas of Expertise

As a generalist, I work with individuals struggling with emotional conditions involving depression, anxiety and/or anger. Trauma recovery, sexual abuse issues, stress management, conflict management, and communication skills are also common in my work. Children and teenagers with behavioral, emotional and learning difficulties I will evaluate and treat. Addictions and eating disorders are outside of my scope of practice.

Distinctions

Outside of my clinical practice, I was instrumental in founding the NH Mental Health Coalition in the mid-1990s, and chaired this organization of mental health professional organizations, patient and consumer advocacy groups, as well as state agencies for 5 years. The Coalition’s purpose has been to protect and expand the quality of mental health care in the state. It has been instrumental in establishing new laws to expand patient care through insurance regulations, and to create patient protections from some rather aggressive managed care practices.

As a result of my work as chair of the Coalition, I was named “Member of the Year” (1998-99) by the New Hampshire Psychological Association, and received a Gubernatorial Citation (2002) from Governor Shaheen. My efforts were also formally honored by the New Futures organization for being instrumental in the creation and passage of a new mental health parity law in the state.
