Who Am I?

My Credentials
I received my Bachelors degree in Psychology from McGill University in 1985.  Following that I earned a Masters degree in School Psychology from Pace University (1989), followed by a Doctorate of Psychology (Psy.D.), also from Pace.  I became a Licensed Psychologist in NH in 1992.  I have been practicing individual, couples and family therapy in NH since 1989, and in 1993 I started my individual practice in Dover.   I moved my practice to a home office in Durham in 2000.

Who I Work With

My primary practice consists of working with adults, both individually and with couples.  However I frequently work with children, teenagers and families.

Areas of Expertise

My training and experience involves working with people suffering from emotional conditions involving depression, anxiety, anger, guilt, shame and grief.  Trauma recovery, sexual abuse histories, stress management, conflict management, communication skills and loss are all part of my clinical repertoire.  In working with children and teenagers, I specialize in behavioral assessment and management and parenting skills.  I draw from a wide range of treatment orientations to tailor my interventions to individual's special needs, however my focus is on being pragmatic and results-oriented.

Distinctions

Apart from my clinical practice, I was instrumental in founding the NH Mental Health Coalition in the mid-1990s which I then chaired for 5 years.  The Coalition's purpose has been to protect and expand the quality of benefits and access to mental health  services throughout the state in the face of aggressive managed care cutbacks.  By working closely with the NH Insurance Commission, the state legislature and the Governor's office, new laws and protections for mental health consumers were enacted.

As a result of my leadership efforts during this period, I was named Member of the Year (1998-99) by the NH Psychological Association, and later received a Gubernatorial Citation (2002) from Governor Shaheen.  My efforts were also formally honored by the New Futures organization for being instrumental in the creation and passage a new mental health parity law in the state.  I remain very proud of these recognitions and of my opportunity to collaborate with so many mental health advocates in New Hampshire.

Other services I have provided have included serving as a board member for the NH Psychological Association, serving on various NHPA committees, and serving on the Psychologist Advisory Committee to the NH Board of Mental Health Practice.
